PRP Facial - Better Than Botox and Other Toxic Treatments?

Aging is a fact of life. Unfortunately, the signs of aging are sometimes first noticeable on the face and neck. Many people start to become self-conscious about the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and dark spots. The first thing they think of is probably fillers or injections. But a PRP Facial is a natural alternative to these toxic, harsh facial treatments.

As a skin-smoothing treatment, Botox injections are effective and a popular choice for some people. But there are caveats that cause concern to some. For instance:

  1.    Botox Neurotoxin

Scary word, right? While most people do not experience side-effects, there is a chance that it may cause life-threatening issues such as trouble swallowing, breathing, speaking, or muscle weakness if the toxin spreads to other areas.

  1.    Loss of expression

The neurotoxin causes paralysis in the local area where it is injected. This means that some areas will be “frozen” and you might be unable to move them at all, which is especially frustrating around the mouth area. Currently, neurotoxins are only FDA approved to treat the lines in between the eyes, but it is not illegal to inject it into other areas.

  1.     It doesn’t last very long

For most people, a neurotoxin treatment lasts from three to four months, after which the treatment will need to be repeated to sustain the results.

Why does skin age?

Aging skin produces less collagen, elastin, and glycosaminoglycan (GAG). The type of cell that is responsible for producing these compounds is called a fibroblast and as we grow older, we have less of these cells in our bodies as we stop producing them. The appearance of aging skin, lines, and wrinkles is directly related lack of new fibroblast formation and a dysfunction of the fibroblasts that are already present.

What is a PRP Facial?

A PRP facial uses your body’s own natural healing potential to reduce wrinkles and slow the signs of aging. It is a long-lasting technique that is not only safe but easily tolerated because we are injecting them with substances that are derived from their own body – as opposed to the neurotoxin Botox.

This unique treatment smooths the look of your face, neck, and décolletage. It not only improves skin texture and elasticity, but it is very effective at reducing wrinkles and scars.

How can using stem cells help signs of aging skin?

We inject your own concentrated platelets, proteins and growth factors into the dermis where they have the ability to develop into new fibroblasts. These powerful new fibroblasts will begin to produce elastin, collagen, and GAG. This helps maintain the skin’s hydration as well as firmness and elasticity – perhaps best of all, it has the potential to last many years, possibly even a lifetime.

PRP Facial procedure: what to expect

The procedure is done in the office and consists of three phases:

Collection: our trained nurse or technician obtains a sample of your blood from your arm.

Concentration: we prepare your blood sample using our cutting-edge technology. This process concentrates the powerful regenerative properties of your blood and filters out the inflammatory components.

BioFacial procedure: after a mini facial and microdermabrasion treatment to exfoliate the outer layer of your skin, we infuse your face with a gentle, micro-needling device. The treatment is comfortable and requires no downtime. Most people leave the office with a slightly flushed face and can resume normal activity immediately.

Most patients notice beneficial results in two weeks or less and those will continue to improve over time. The effects last several years and, for some, may last a lifetime.

Is a PRP Facial better than neurotoxins?

While there is a little more involved in the PRP Facial procedure, we tend to think it is far superior to toxins for many reasons:

  •      The side effects are almost non-existent, as we are using your own cells in the procedure.
  •      The procedure is long-lasting.
  •      A PRP Facial stimulates natural collagen and elastin production, whereas Botox is introduced to the area and does not cause anything beneficial to happen besides a temporary smoothing of lines and wrinkles.
  •      The treatment works very well to minimize scars – not something Botox can claim.
  •      The treatment can be applied to many different areas of the body, including neck and décolletage whereas Botox is only viable for certain parts of the face
